Ways We Help

Mission Essentials Campaign

For over 109 years, The Salvation Army has been serving in Miami and provides vital health and human service needs for Miami-Dade County and Monroe County. With five locations throughout Miami-Dade County, our social service programs focus on serving those impoverished of material goods, opportunity, and hope through varying programs such as:

• Emergency financial assistance
• Food distribution and community meals
• Emergency disaster response and services
• Shelter and rent/mortgage assistance
• Transitional housing for AIDS patients

• Youth educational programs
• Senior services
• Veteran support
• Financial literacy education
• Culinary training

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent economic crisis, The Salvation Army has remained a critical resource provider for the health and safety of at risk populations. Over the past year, we have continued to see a significant rise in the number of people seeking assistance in the Miami-Dade. As a response to this moment of crisis, The Salvation Army of Miami has created the Mission Essentials Campaign. With your help, the Mission Essentials Campaign can provide over 1,000,000 meals and assures the Miami Area Command has capacity to provide our neighbors in need with nourishment, shelter, compassion, and care.

As we work to support our community against the immediate impacts of COVID-19, we also remain responsive and forward-thinking as we prepare for an equity-driven response in the recovery effort that lies ahead. Your help today allows us to help those in need now and prepare the purposeful expertise needed for a community-based recovery. Together, we can combat the added challenges facing our at-risk communities and provide a safer and more equitable today, tomorrow, and future for Miami-Dade County.

With 1 in 6 people in Miami-Dade County living in poverty, The Salvation Army Continues to:

  • Provide emergency financial assistance for those in crisis to help people remain in stable housing and meet their daily basic needs (including: access to food, rent, utilities, car repair, prescription medicine, household goods, etc.)
  • Provide emergency housing and shelter in our homeless shelter for families and veterans, with an added capacity of an additional 257 beds each night
  • Deliver weekly food boxes to senior citizens and vulnerable people who must social distance and or lack transportation
  • Maintain a detailed cleaning schedule, and apply additional hygiene and cleaning protocols to minimize community spread and protect those we serve
  • Expand our round-the-clock services and operations to meet increased needs with any crisis or disaster

Above all, The Salvation Army continues to take on essential work that is not profitable, but purposeful and has future
outcomes that matter to us all. With your support, we can continue to allocate and align resources with equity and
inclusion programs that will enhance community, improve health, and share hope.
